What Is Hospice Care?

Understanding Hospice

What Is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is a specialized form of medical care designed to provide comfort and support to patients who are nearing the end of life. Rather than focusing on curing illness, hospice focuses on managing pain, easing symptoms, and enhancing quality of life. Hospice is typically appropriate when a physician has determined that a patient has a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course. However, patients can remain on hospice care for as long as they meet eligibility criteria.
